RWANDA

Rwanda may be a small country by African standards, but this ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’ is brimming full of dynamic experiences. Wildlife enthusiasts can trek a multitude of primates, ranging from the infamous Mountain Gorillas, to our even closer cousins the chimpanzees, as well as smaller but more acrobatic varieties like golden monkeys and black & white colobus monkeys. Akagera National Park in the east of the country offers traditional vehicle safaris while Nyungwe Forest in the south west has numerous hikes and East Africa’s only canopy walk. Active travelers can include more energetic activities including guided road and mountain bike trips, along with canoeing and kayaking.

VIRUNGA ~ D.R.C

The DRC is without a doubt a destination less travelled to, but this only adds to its allure for the intrepid traveler. Virunga National Park (Africa’s oldest national park and a UNESCO world heritage site due to its immense biodiversity), has two considerable gems hidden within its boundaries, the endangered Mountain Gorillas and the world’s largest lava lake found atop the Nyiragongo volcano. Those who are prepared to make the journey will be rewarded with once in a lifetime memories, sitting in the presence of these gentle giants and staring into the fiery depths of the earth. Quite possibly one of the most life changing destinations to encounter.

UGANDA

Uganda is a must for primate lovers, who can get up close to two great apes, the Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees, who live in its vast jungles and forests. Visitors can combine these trekking experiences with Queen Elizabeth National Park and Murchison Falls for traditional safari options as well as the less conventional but equally enthralling boat safaris. Home to over 1000 bird species, Uganda is a true bird lovers paradise. While adrenaline junkies can get their fix mountaineering, white water rafting, kayaking, off-road quad biking and horseback riding. The warmth of Uganda’s people will touch your heart, and you will quickly see why it has earned a reputation for being ‘Africa’s friendliest country’.
